Normalize Black Girl Luxury

Normalize Black Girl Luxury

I have been in a luxurious state of mind recently – because I have finally allowed myself to be.

There is a popular hashtag going around stating #NormalizeBlackGirlLuxury and there is a strong reason that that is a thing. Black Women, especially in the United States, have a history of struggle; never having enough and having to work to death for every single dime.

Many of us did not come from “Old Money.” We do not have fancy china sets, diamond earrings or other pricey heirlooms to pass down to other generations. Most of our parents were basically just trying to survive. Thus, ingrained in us is a survivor’s mentality.

Hermes. Chanel. Dior. Prada. All names synonymous with the rich and famous; seemingly unattainable for a little Black girl born and raised in the projects of gritty New York City.

However, I have come to realize that a luxurious lifestyle is a state of mind. As I began to truly seek to elevate my lifestyle, I discovered I did not have to be rich to live rich. What is rich anyway? The ability to order whatever food you like whenever you want? Uber Eats. The ability to buy name brand clothes, shoes, or bags? Nordstrom Rack. The ability to vacation in luxury? AirBnB. The list goes on and on. Here is a list of small things you can do to start to upgrade your own lifestyle:

I collect mugs! Adore them! It is one of my favorite ways to enjoy my energy/metabolism boosting tea in the morning and feel fancy while doing it. It may seem like a small thing, but it makes a huge difference.

My life changed the moment I went to bed in my Victoria Secret Silk Pajamas. We usually get home and go right to our favorite t-shirt and sweats but how about after a nice bath (that you’ve added essential oils to) you get in a nice pair of soft glam and luxe pajamas? You do not have to break the bank for these but if you do splurge – it’s worth it!

Pro Tip: Spritz your favorite perfume on before bed!

We are on the go all day – after a quick shower we tend to wash our face with whatever almost empty bottle of cleanser we have and maybe throw on some face moisturizer and we hit the sack. Instead of that, how about finding out your skin type and investing in products specifically for you? Make sure to include a cleanser, toner, eye serum, daytime moisturizer with SPF and a hydrating nighttime moisturizer. Of course, you want to make sure you are using a mask at least once a week. My favorite has been this Purifying Mint Clay Mask! I love feeling the tingle on my face as I sit in my robe and read my book as I wait for it to work its magic!

Lastly, if you DO have your eye on a luxury piece – save for it! There is no better feeling than knowing that you worked hard, budgeted, and bought your luxury item yourself.

And guess what? That little Black Girl from the NYC projects? She got her CHANEL.

So, tell me what are you going to do to upgrade your lifestyle? And while you are at it – look up the hashtag #BlackGirlLuxury on Instagram for inspo! Thank me later!
